To avoid injury to persons performing these works and/or damage to the electronic ignition system, when carrying out repair work on vehicles with such a system, the following rules should be observed.
When the engine is running or when starting it, do not touch the high-voltage wire with your hands or pull it with your hands.
Only with the ignition switched off, disconnect the ignition system wires from the terminals, especially the multi-pin plug of the engine control device.
Each high voltage electrical circuit must be loaded with a resistor having a resistance of at least 2 kOhm, i.e. when the ignition is turned on, the spark plug contact tips must be mounted.
Connect and disconnect measuring instruments from the wire terminals only when the ignition is switched off (tachometer/ignition system tester).
A test lamp must not be connected to terminals 1 (–) and 15 (+) of the ignition coils.
If a vehicle maintenance requires a spark test, this should only be done using the spark plug directly in the cylinder. Ensure good contact between the spark plug and the vehicle body. Do not hold the spark plug tip or high-tension wire with your hand, but rather with well-insulated pliers against the vehicle body (for example, to the engine cylinder block).
Before determining the starter speed, check the compression pressure, turn off the ignition and remove the plug (A) on the HFM adjuster or the crankshaft position sensor (L5) on the PMS adjuster.
The primary circuit connecting elements conduct voltages of up to 400 volts! Therefore, it is always necessary to connect the clamps/core pack to the vehicle body.
When performing electric and spot welding, disconnect the electrical on-board network from the battery terminal.
Wash the engine only with the ignition off.
Persons with a pacemaker should not work with the electronic ignition system.
