Contents: Front cuff ↡ Back cuff ↡

Front cuff

1. Remove the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper and hub as described in paragraph 5.

2. Measure and record the cuff installation depth.

3. Hook and pull the cuff out of the housing. You can drill a small hole in the cuff, screw in a self-tapping screw, and pull the cuff out with pliers.

4. Check the bushing at the end of the crankshaft. If it is worn or scored, it must be replaced. If the bushing is tight, carefully remove it with a lever.

5. Clean the crankshaft seal housing and bushing.

6. Dip the new seal into clean engine oil and press it into the housing using a pipe or a wrench (open end first) to the marked depth. A piece of thin polyethylene or adhesive tape around the bushing will help protect the cuff from damage during installation.

7. Where used, remove the plastic or tape from the bushing.

Back cuff

9. Remove the flywheel/drive plate as described in paragraph 14.

10. Perform the actions described in paragraphs 2 and 3.

11. Check the crankshaft surface under the seal for damage. If significant wear is detected, the crankshaft should be replaced.

12. Clean the seal housing and the crankshaft flange surface.

13. Dip the new seal into clean engine oil and press it into the housing using a pipe or a wrench (open end first) to the marked depth. A piece of thin polyethylene or adhesive tape around the back of the crankshaft flange will help protect the seal from damage during installation. Note that for a reliable seal, the seal must be installed at a right angle to the crankshaft flange.

14. Remove plastic or tape where used.

15. Install the flywheel/faceplate as described in paragraph 14.
