Caution: Before working on the battery, read the warnings in section Safety First at the beginning of this guide.
- Make sure the battery thread is in good condition and secure. Traces of corrosion on the tray, clamps and the battery itself can be removed with an aqueous solution of soda. Then rinse the treated surfaces thoroughly with water. Coat metal parts damaged by corrosion with a zinc-based primer and paint over.
- Periodically (at least once every three months) check the charge state of the battery as described in chapter 5A.
- If the battery is low and you need to start the engine using a booster battery, refer to "road repair".
Battery corrosion can be minimized by lubricating the terminals and leads with petroleum jelly after connecting the wires.
1. The battery is located on the right rear of the engine compartment. Regularly check the appearance of the battery, paying attention to the absence of cracks in its case or cover.
2. Check that the clamps are securely fastened to the terminals, which ensures reliable electrical contact. A well-tightened clamp cannot be turned on the terminal. Also check the battery wires for damage.
3. If there are signs of corrosion on the terminals or clamps (white loose deposits), disconnect the wires from the terminals, clean them with a wire brush and reinstall. In stores with related products, you can find special tools for cleaning the terminals.
4. Note that the positive battery terminal can be disconnected for cleaning or replacement after unscrewing the nut located under the plastic cover.
