Towing a car (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W201)

After trying all the options, you may find yourself having to resort to towing your vehicle; it is also possible that you will be helping someone yourself. Delivery of a car over a significant distance should be carried out only by the services of a repair shop or a special transport service. Towing over shorter distances can be done by a car enthusiast, but it is necessary to remember the rules below.

Use a suitable towing rope - it is not expensive. The towed car should have a sign on the rear window - "under tow".

Always turn the ignition key to the "on" position when towing to disengage the steering lock and to ensure that the turn signal and brake light operate.

Attach the towing rope only to the towing eyes intended for this purpose (see photo).

Before towing, release the parking brake and place the transmission shift lever in neutral.

Please note that braking will require more force than usual on the brake pedals, as the brake assist only functions when the engine is running.

On models equipped with power steering, more effort than usual will also be required to steer.

The driver of the towed vehicle must keep the towing rope taut at all times to avoid jerking.

Both drivers should agree on the route before starting the journey.

It is necessary to drive at a moderate speed and try to minimize the length of the towing route. The movement should be smooth, and braking before the intersection should be started in advance.

On models equipped with an automatic transmission, special precautions must be taken. If you have any doubts, do not resort to towing, as incorrect actions can lead to damage to the transmission.
