Removal the timing chain

Removal the timing chain
01 - Rods; 04, 05 - Wedges; 2 - Upper guide lever; 4 - Timing chain; 8 - Plate


1. Bring the engine to the position 45° before TDC of the piston of the first cylinder.

2. Lock the camshafts of the right cylinder head with rods (01).

3. Remove the timing chain tensioner and the right tensioner arm (2) from above.

4. Lock the chain on the camshaft sprockets using wedges (04) and (05).

5. Press out the chain pin (4) between the intake and exhaust sprockets.

6. Using a screwdriver, remove the plate (8) of the chain (4).

7. Remove the double chain link (4).

8. Attach the new chain (5) to the old one (4) using the link (6) and the intermediate plate (7) (1.6 mm thick) and the outer plate (8).

9. Remove the fingers (01).

1. Remove the wedge (05), pressing the chain against the camshaft sprockets by hand at this stage.

2. Loosen the position of the wedge (04) on the exhaust shaft sprocket.

3. Rotate the crankshaft using the key (10), pressing the chain against the camshaft sprockets by hand. Make sure that the chain does not move during rotation. In this case, the new chain must be installed inside the timing cover.

4. Disconnect the end of the old chain (4) from the new chain (5).

5. Rotate the crankshaft until it is possible to connect the ends of the new chain with a connecting link.

6. Install wedges (04) and (05) on the sprockets.

7. Connect the new chain (5) with the link (6) and the plate (7).

1. Install the clamp (1) of the press and insert the chain into it. Screw in the bolt (28).

2. Install the sliding stop plate (2).

3. Insert the outer plate (8) (1.2 mm thick) into the sliding stop plate.

4. Place the press on the chain.

5. Screw in the bolt (06) and press the chain in. Make sure that the connecting link pins are pressed into the outer plate (8).



6. Remove the press.

1. Move the thrust plate (arrow) (2) back.

2. Place the press over the center finger.

3. Tighten the bolt (06) to 30 Nm.

4. The connecting link pins (6) are pressed in separately.

5. Check the press fit (arrows) and repeat if necessary.

6. Set the camshafts to the reference position.

7. Install the chain tensioner.

8. Check the reference position of the camshafts.
