Check the camshaft bearings and journals to determine if the weight is within specifications.
Using prisms and a dial indicator, check whether the camshaft runout is within the required limits. Wear or damage to the cams can cause malfunctions in the valve control mechanism. In this case, it is necessary to check the valve timing of the camshafts. In the normal case and during installation work, it is necessary to check the marking in the TDC position of the engine.
In special cases, such as power loss, it is necessary to check the valve timing and adjust the start of opening of the intake valve of the first and sixth cylinders in 8-cylinder engines and the start of opening of the exhaust valve and the end of closing of the intake valve of the first cylinder in 6-cylinder engines.
The valve timing is measured at a valve stroke of 2 mm. This is to compensate for the valve clearance.
