Rocker arm — removal and installation (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

The rocker arm is always installed in the same position it was in before removal. If the rocker arm is replaced with a new one, the camshaft must be checked and, if necessary, replaced.

And press the rocker arm pressure spring with a screwdriver (6-cylinder engines only); To do this, install the camshaft so that the rocker arm is unloaded. The engine must not be rotated by the camshaft sprocket.

Press down the valve plate using tool No.110 589 0461 00 for 6-cylinder engines and No.123 589 03 61 00 for 8-cylinder engines and remove the rocker arm.



Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Before installation, lubricate the rocker arm mating surface with oil. On 6-cylinder engines, check the patency of the oil injection hole in the rocker arm and insert the pressure spring into the annular groove of the adjusting bolt.

Check the valve clearance and adjust it if necessary.

If necessary, check the basic fit of the hydraulic valve clearance compensator.
