Repair of window lifts on the road (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W210)

If the window lifter fails on the road, there is no need to drive with the window open, especially in bad weather. The situation can be corrected, it is only important that the window lifter motor itself is in good working order, and that two wires of sufficient length are at hand.

Sequence of works

1. Remove the door trim (see "Body").

2. Disconnect the power window wiring connector.

3. Connect the ends of the spare wires to the positive and negative terminals of the battery, respectively, while avoiding contact with exposed wires.

4. Connect the free ends of the wires to the connector leading to the window lift mechanism – the electric motor will start to raise the glass. If the glass starts to lower, reverse the polarity.

5. If the electric motor is still faulty, disconnect the glass fastening from the window lift mechanism.

6. Pull the glass up and secure it to the door frame with a piece of masking tape or duct tape.
