Setting the ignition timing using a stroboscope (Mercedes-Benz E-Class W123)

1. Loosen the distributor housing fastening.

2. Connect the strobe light according to the operating instructions.

3. If the ignition distributor has a vacuum ignition timing regulator, disconnect the vacuum hose from it.

4. Start the engine and bring the engine speed to the value for setting the ignition timing (see adjustment data in the subsection "Design and technical characteristics - Ignition system").

5. Turn the ignition distributor housing so that the mark on the engine flywheel is located in the center of the clutch housing hatch.

6. In this position, tighten the distributor housing mounting bolt to the bracket and check the stroke of the centrifugal ignition timing regulator curve (see adjustment data in the subsection "Design and technical characteristics - Ignition system").
