Removal and installation the rain sensor (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203)

Note: The rain sensor is mounted on the windshield, at the height of the rearview mirror. It controls the wiper intervals.


It must be installed with extreme care to avoid damaging the windshield and sensor optics.

Removal



1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable with the ignition off. The cabin air filter box must be removed first.

Warning! Before disconnecting the cable, find out the radio receiver security code, if any, refer to Section Replacing the battery.


2. Remove the cover (1).


2. Remove the cover (1).

3. Disconnect the connector (2) from the rain sensor (4).


3. Disconnect the connector (2) from the rain sensor (4).

4. Insert the screwdriver (5) into the slots (3) on the sides of the rain sensor and open the two locks on the right and left.



5. Remove the rain sensor (4) from the holder.

Note: The sensor lens is glued to the windshield. The lens can only be replaced at a service station.


Installation



1. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

2. Connect the battery ground (-) cable with the ignition off. Reinstall the cabin air filter box. If necessary, enter the radio code and set the clock.

3. Check the operation of the rain sensor and the windshield wiper intervals. To do this, pour water on the windshield in the area where the sensor is located.
