Relays and Fuses — Location and Replacement (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203)

Most of the car's electrical consumers are protected by fuses. Individual components of the lighting system, with the exception of the brake lights, are protected by electronic relays.

If too much current flows, the electrical circuit of the protected components is electronically interrupted. After a short time, the electrical circuit is automatically closed again. If the fault occurs again, the electrical circuit is interrupted again.

Use fuses with the required amperage rating.

Do not repair or bridge blown fuses.

Determine the cause of the burnout.

The relays are located in two fuse boxes in the trunk and also in the engine compartment.

1. Remove the fuse box cover and remove the damaged relay using special pliers, for example, HAZET 4770-1.

2. Check the functionality of the relay and replace it with a new one if necessary, refer to the relevant section.

3. Install the relay on the board and close the fuse box cover.

The fuses are located in three blocks, which are located on the side of the instrument panel, in the trunk and in the engine compartment.

Fuse box 1

Fuse box 1 is located on the driver's side, at the side of the instrument panel.

1. Depending on the version, the cover (1) is removed from the instrument panel using a screwdriver or by the protrusion.

2. Tilt the cover to the left and remove it from the top holder.

Note: The lid sits very firmly in the upper holder, so a plastic wedge, such as HAZET 1965-20, may be required to remove it.

3. Tilt the cover further to the left, remove the guide rails at the top and bottom from the holes and remove the cover from the instrument panel.

4. When installing, insert the guide rails into the holes, close the cover and fix it in the holders.

Fuse box 2

Fuse box 2 is located in the trunk behind the side trim.

1. Sedan: Remove the cover (1) from the trim. Remove the cover (2) of the fuse box.

Fuse box 3

Fuse box 3 is located on the left side in the engine compartment under the cover.

1. Open the hood.

2. Remove the cover over the fuse box. To do this, turn the plastic screws ¼ turn and pull the cover out of the guide rail.

3. Release the clamps (1), pull the fuse box cover (2) forward and remove.

3. Release the clamps (1), pull the fuse box cover (2) forward and remove.

4. When installing, press the cover into the rear tire and place it on the fuse box. Make sure that the cover is positioned correctly.

5. Lock the lid with clamps.

6. Place the cover over the fuse box, making sure that the cover fits into the side guide rail.

7. Secure the cover with screws by turning the plastic screws ¼ turn.
