Removal



1. Open the tailgate.

2. Remove the tailgate trim, refer to the relevant section.

3. Remove the cable harness (3). Disconnect all connectors (1) and disconnect all wires (2) on the tailgate and pull them out through the cable harness (3). The arrow indicates 2 screws. The illustration shows the tailgate of the Station Wagon model.

4. Disconnect the water hose at the connector or windshield washer nozzle and remove it through the cable harness.

5. Sports Coupé: Using a plastic wedge, separate the trim at the rear of the roof and pull it back slightly. Carefully insert a 65 mm high wooden block between the roof and the trim.

Attention! Before removing the gas-filled strut, be sure to ask an assistant to hold the tailgate. Otherwise, the door may fall, since it is not held by the strut alone.

7. Station wagon: Remove two mounting bolts on each hinge on the left and right (arrows in the illustration).

9. With the help of an assistant, remove the tailgate and place it on the lining.

Installation



1. Position the tailgate with the help of an assistant and screw in the mounting bolts without tightening them.

2. Close the tailgate and check the gaps, adjust them if necessary.

3. Tighten the mounting nut bolts to a torque of 9 Nm.

4. Install the gas-filled strut on the ball joint and insert the retaining ring. Install the second strut in the same way.

5. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
