Chain tensioner (244) screwed into the cylinder head from the right side. Engine oil is supplied under pressure through a hole in the cylinder head to the chain tensioner.
The chain is tensioned by the force of the compression spring (230) and oil pressure in the tensioner. Finger pressure (233) to the control bus (215) kept constant by check valve (227/228) and pressure relief valve (227/231), i.e. does not depend on the oil pressure in the engine.
Removing
Unscrew the chain tensioner by the hex head (235) from the cylinder head.
Control
1. Place the chain tensioner with pressure finger in SAE 10 engine oil. The oil level should be slightly above the flange of the hex head of the tensioner. Press down on the pressure finger 7-10 times with a press.
2. After filling with oil, the tensioner should compress slowly, evenly and with great force. Otherwise, replace it.
Installation
Attention! Mount the chain tensioner only when filled with oil.
Install the chain tensioner using a new gasket and tighten the mounting bolts to 80 Nm. In this case, the pressure finger must be in contact with the protrusion of the tension slide.
