Speedometer Cable — Removal and Installation (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W201)

Removal



1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the cover under the instrument panel on the driver's side.

3. To access the back of the instrument cluster, work from below, under the instrument panel, and disconnect the air duct and air deflector on the right side.

4. Loosen the speedometer cable mounting nut and remove the cable.

5. Pull the cable into the engine compartment and release it from the brackets and holders.

6. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands (see "Lifting the car and placing it on supports").

7. Working from underneath the vehicle, loosen the cable mounting bolt on the side of the automatic transmission and remove the cable (see fig. 10.7).

8. Release the cable from the holders on the bottom and side of the gearbox (see fig. 10.8), then remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation



9. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
