Electronic control unit (ECU)
Removing
1. The constant speed drive ECU is located behind the lower instrument panel on the driver's side.
2. Remove the headlight dimmer switch as previously described.
3. Remove the lower part of the instrument panel from the driver's side, as described in Chapter 11.
4. Disconnect the wire connectors, then unscrew the fastening screws and remove the ZBU from below from under the instrument panel.
Installation
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When finished, check the operation of the constant speed drive system.
Actuator of the constant speed motion system
Removing
6. The actuator is located on the side of the cylinder block.
7. On most models it will be necessary to remove the air cleaner housing to gain access to the actuator If necessary, to improve access, apply the parking brake, then jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands (see "Vehicle lifting and jacking up"). Loosen the mounting screws and remove the engine protection (where it is installed).
8. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, then trace the wiring from the actuator and disconnect the connector.
9. Using a flat blade screwdriver, carefully pry the connecting rod from the actuator ball joint.
10. Loosen and remove nuts/bolts (depending on what is being used), securing the actuator bracket to the cylinder block and remove the assembly from the engine.
11. If necessary, unscrew the bolts securing the actuator to its bracket, remembering the correct location of the rubber supports and bushings.
Installation
12. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure the actuator rubber mounts are in good condition. If necessary, the length of the connecting rod can be adjusted by loosening the lock nut and screwing in/out the ball joint on the rod. When the rod length is adjusted, connect it to the actuator and tighten the locknut securely.
System switch
13. The switch is part of the steering column switch box. Talk to paragraph 5. When the switch box is removed, the constant speed control switch can be unfastened.
Speed sensor
Removing
14. The speed sensor is mounted on the back of the speedometer.
15. To gain access to the sensor, remove the instrument panel as described in paragraph 8.
16. Turn away the fastening screw and remove the gauge from a reverse side of a speedometer.
Installation
17. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
