Warning: A spring compression tool must be purchased. Available adjustable spring compressors are recommended for this operation. Any attempt to remove the spring without a tool is likely to result in breakage or injury.
Note: A new lower arm axle inner bolt nut and anti-roll bar link nut are required for installation.
Removing
1. Place wedges under the front wheels, then jack up the rear of the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands (see "Jacking up the car and installing the support"). Remove the relevant wheel.
2. Place the compressed spring tool on the spring and compress it to release the upper and lower cups.
3. Turn away screws of fastening and remove a protective casing from the basis of the lower suspension arm. Place a jack and block of wood under the lower arm and raise the jack to support the weight of the arm.
4. Loosen and remove the nut and remove the axle bolt securing the lower suspension arm to the rear subframe. Loosen and remove the nut and bolt holding the anti-roll bar link to the lower control arm.
5. Gently lower the lever so that it is possible to remove the spring and the upper spring cup.
6. Check up a condition of a spring. If wear or damage is found, replace. If you find that the top cup is damaged or broken, replace it.
Installation
7. Check that the lower arm spring seat is clean, then install the upper cup onto the spring and reinstall the spring.
8. Position the lower end of the spring against the stop on the lower arm cup. Align the upper spring cup with the body rest and carefully raise the arm, aligning the upper shock mount with the subframe.
9. Check up that the spring has risen correctly, then insert a bolt of an axis of the bottom lever. Install a new nut onto the bolt and tighten by hand. Install the anti-roll bar link bolt and tighten to specification.
10. Remove the jack from under the lower arm, then carefully release the spring compressor, making sure the lower and upper ends of the spring are correctly positioned.
11. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel boots to the required torque.
12. With the vehicle on the ground, rock it until the spring is in the desired position, then tighten the lower arm axle bolt nut to the required torque. Install the protective cover on the lower arm and tighten the screws securing it.
