Front cable



Removal



Note: A new cable to regulator mounting plate bolt is required for installation.


1. Remove the driver's seat and center console as described in Chapter 11.

2. Working at the base of the parking brake lever, remove the cotter pin, then the pin and disconnect the cable from the lever (see fig. 15.2).

3. Pry up the grommet, then pass the cable through the floor.

4. Working from underneath the vehicle, unhook the return spring and remove it from the cable hinge plate (see fig. 15.4).

5. Remove the bolt securing the rear of the front cable to the hinge plate. Discard the bolt and use a new one when installing.



6. Walk along the cable, remembering how it is laid and release it from the corresponding holders and clamps and remove it from the car.

Installation



7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Secure the cable to the hinge plate with a new bolt. When finished, adjust the parking brake as described in paragraph 13.

Removal



Note: A new cable to hub bolt will be required for installation.


8. Remove the appropriate set of parking brake shoes as described in paragraph 14 and separate the expansion mechanism from the end of the cable.

9. Loosen the bolt securing the cable sheath to the hub and pull the cable out from behind the brake shield (see fig. 15.9). Discard the bolt as a new one must be used during installation.

10. Unscrew the fasteners and lower the heat shields from the bottom of the body.

11. Disengage the return spring and remove the cable hinge plate.

12. Remove the clip securing the front end of the cable to the bracket, then unhook the cable from the regulator plate and remove it from under the vehicle (see fig. 15.12).

Installation



13. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Secure the cable to the hub using a new bolt. When finished, adjust the parking cable as described in paragraph 13.
