Steering input assembly installation details
25f - Casing
Note. All self-locking bolts and nuts must be replaced without fail!
1. Details of the installation of the steering mechanism are shown in the illustration, to which all references in the text refer.
2. Pump out the hydraulic fluid from the power steering reservoir.
3. Remove the front axle assembly (see Section Removing and installing the front axle assembly).
4. Using a puller, release the tie rod ends (10a) of the steering knuckles, - self-locking nuts must be replaced without fail.
5. Bring the front wheels into a straight line, then remove the key from the ignition.
6. On vehicles with parametric steering, disconnect the SPS wiring connector on the cylinder head cover.
7. Disconnect return line (30f) and expansion hose (30i).
8. Loosen the nut (25d) bolted connection and separate the lower shaft of the steering column (80a) from the input node (25).
9. Turn out bolts (23a) and remove the steering assembly (23) from the stretcher (1).
10. Assess the condition of the rubber mounts (21), replace if necessary.
11. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, make sure that the adjusting washers fit correctly (23h and 23i), installed between the rubber support and the subframe only on the right side of the assembly - the washers differ in thickness. Do not forget to change the sealing elements of the nipple connectors of the hydraulic lines.
12. Fill the steering pump reservoir with fresh fluid and bleed the hydraulic path (see Section Filling and «pumping» steering pump).
13. Make sure there are no signs of leak development.
14. Finally, if the steering gear has been replaced, drive the vehicle to a workshop to have the front wheel toe-in adjusted.
