3. Remove the front axle assembly (see Section Removal and installation the front axle assembly).
4. Using a puller, release the steering rod end joints (10a) from the steering knuckles - the self-locking nuts must be replaced without fail.
5. Place the front wheels in a straight-ahead position, then remove the key from the ignition switch.
6. On vehicles with speed-sensitive power steering, disconnect the SPS wiring connector on the cylinder head cover.
7. Disconnect the return line (30f) and the pressure expansion hose (30i).
8. Loosen the nut (25d) of the bolt connection and separate the lower steering column shaft (80a) from the input unit (25).
9. Remove the bolts (23a) and remove the steering gear assembly (23) from the subframe (1).
10. Assess the condition of the rubber supports (21), replace if necessary.
11. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, make sure that the adjusting washers (23h and 23i) are correctly seated between the rubber support and the subframe only on the right side of the assembly - the washers differ in thickness. Do not forget to change the sealing elements of the hydraulic line nipple connectors.
12. Fill the steering pump reservoir with fresh fluid and bleed the hydraulic circuit (see Section Filling and "bleeding" the steering pump).
13. Check for signs of developing leaks.
14. Finally, if the steering gear has been replaced, take the car to a service station to have the front wheel alignment adjusted.
