Gasoline engine

Removal

Removal

1. Pull the intake air temperature sensor (B17) out of the cross pipe by squeezing the retaining clips (arrow).

2. Screw on the clamps (4/8), (4/13) and remove the air filter cross pipe (4/5) together with the fitting hose (4/6).

Installation

Installation

1. 4-cylinder engine: Position the air cleaner cross pipe so that both base elements on the bottom are pressed into the retaining lugs on the high-voltage cable housing (arrows).

2. 6-cylinder engine: Fit the air cleaner cross pipe so that the welded hollow pins are pressed into the rubber bearings of the cylinder head cover. The hollow pins serve to ventilate the engine crankcase and to fix the cross pipe.

3. Tighten the hose clamps firmly.

4. Install the intake air temperature sensor (1B17) and press the retaining clips outward until they click into place.

Diesel engine

Removal

Removal

1. Remove the bolts (97/3) on the intake manifold.

2. Remove the bolts (97/2) from the air filter cross pipe holder (97/1).

3. Remove the air cleaner cross pipe.

Installation

1. Check the sealing cuff (97/4) and the O-rings on the hydraulic valve body/air filter cross pipe for defects and porosity; replace if necessary.

2. Insert the air cleaner cross pipe, install the bolts into the intake manifold.

3. Screw the holder on and tighten the bolts on the intake manifold until secure.
