It is recommended to set the ignition timing at a service station with Bosch testers, which are indispensable when performing such work. If you want to adjust the ignition timing yourself, you will need a pulse lamp compatible with the ignition system of this design. To measure the rotation speed, connect a tachometer in accordance with the instructions. To check and adjust, perform the following work:
Finely adjust the gap between the breaker contacts.
Connect all measuring instruments.
Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the ignition distributor.
Direct the flash lamp beam at the damper and start the engine. Check the position of the indicator pin and the mark on the damper. The ignition timing data is given in the tables.
Check the centrifugal and vacuum regulators. To do this, compare the data specified when working with or without a vacuum regulator.
