Service intervals are indicated on a digital display located on the instrument panel. The first indication of the need for maintenance appears approximately one month or 3,000 km before the current maintenance period.

The maintenance indicator on the universal display appears automatically after the ignition is turned on or while driving.

The following messages may appear:
  • "SERVICE A" "IN xx DAYS" (SERVICE ON LIST A... IN xx DAYS)
  • "SERVICE A" "IN xx KM" (SERVICE LIST A... AFTER MILEAGE xx KM)
  • "SERVICE A" "EXCEEDED BY xx DAYS!" (SERVICE ON LIST A... OVERDUE BY xx DAYS!)
  • "SERVICE A" "EXCEEDED BY xx KM!" (LIST A SERVICE... OVERDUE BY xx KM!)
  • "SERVICE A" "CARRY OUT!" (LIST A MAINTENANCE...GET IT DONE!)

"SERVICE A" display (LIST A SERVICE) or "SERVICE B" (LIST B SERVICE) provide information about what maintenance should be performed.

Depending on the driving style, the maintenance period is indicated in days or kilometers (km).

If the maintenance period has expired, an additional sound signal is activated.

The maintenance indicator automatically switches off after 30 seconds or by pressing the reset button on the instrument panel (Section 9 of the Chapter "Controls and safe operation techniques").

Calling up the maintenance indication

Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 1 or 2.

Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 1 or 2.

Using the button or on the multifunction steering wheel, call up the indication of the odometer since reset and the total mileage counter (Section Multifunctional steering wheel, universal display).

Button or press until the maintenance indicator appears.

At the push of a button or the next or previous system is indicated.

Important! The maintenance indicator does not display the engine oil level. Calling up the engine oil level indication is discussed below.

The mileage between two maintenance services depends on the driving style.

A calm driving style at medium engine speeds and a reduction in the number of short-distance trips will increase the vehicle's service life (additional information is provided in the "Service Book").

Note: If the battery is disconnected, the maintenance indicator does not take into account the idle time.

In order to comply with the maintenance deadlines, it is necessary to take this period of time into account.

Resetting the maintenance indicator after performing maintenance

Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 1.

Using the button or on the multifunction steering wheel, call up the indication of the odometer since reset and the total mileage counter.

Button or press until the maintenance indicator appears.

The reset button on the instrument panel (Section Dashboard) press and hold for approximately 2 seconds.

The universal display prompts: "DO YOU WANT TO RESET SERVICE INTERVAL?" "CONFIRM BY PRESSING R" (DO YOU WISH TO START A NEW MOT COUNTDOWN? - CONFIRM BY PRESSING THE RESET BUTTON).

Press the reset button on the dashboard again, the maintenance due date indication is reset.

The maintenance indicator appears with a new mileage count from the start.

If the reset of the maintenance indicator was performed by mistake, the indicator readings can be updated at a service station "Mercedes-Benz".

Engine oil level indicator

When checking the oil level, the vehicle must be in a horizontal position.

Check the oil level approximately 5 minutes after stopping the engine after it has warmed up to operating temperature.

Turn the key in the ignition switch to position 2.

Using the button or on the multifunction steering wheel, call up the indication of the odometer since reset and the total mileage counter (Section Multifunctional steering wheel, universal display).

Button or on the multifunction steering wheel, press until the engine oil level indicator appears "MEASUREMENT CORRECT ONLY IF VEH. LEVEL!" (ACCURATE MEASUREMENT IS ONLY POSSIBLE IN THE HORIZONTAL POSITION OF THE CAR!) This indication appears only as a reminder; if the vehicle is not in a horizontal position, the measurement can be interrupted by pressing a button or . If the measurement is not interrupted, this will lead to an erroneous measurement - bring the car to a horizontal position and repeat the measurement.

If a message appears "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "SWITCH ON IGNITION!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - TURN OFF IGNITION!), then the key in the ignition switch is not in position 2.

After about 3 seconds the indication appears "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "MEASURING NOW!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - BEING MEASURED!)

The following indications may appear on the display:
  • "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "OK" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL IS NORMAL). No oil top-up required.
  • "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "ADD 1,0 LITER!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - ADD 1.0 LITRE OF OIL!)
  • "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "ADD 1,5 LITER!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - ADD 1.5 LITERS OF OIL!)
  • "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "ADD 2,0 LITER!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - ADD 2.0 LITERS OF OIL!)
  • "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "REDUCE OIL LEVEL!" (ENGINE OIL LEVEL - LOWER OIL LEVEL!) appears only when the engine is warmed up to operating temperature.

Excess oil must be drained or pumped out. There is a risk of damage to the engine or catalytic converter.

"WAITING TIME" "OBSERVE!" (PLEASE WAIT FOR THE TIME!)

This indication appears if the required waiting time after switching off the engine has not been taken into account.

After turning off the engine, wait the following time:
  • With the engine warmed up to operating temperature - about 5 minutes;
  • If the engine has not reached operating temperature - up to 30 minutes.

Repeat the oil level measurement after the appropriate waiting time has elapsed.

Note: If the engine oil level indicator appears on the universal display while the engine is running, see "Warning system and fault signaling" (Section Warning and indicator lamps, as well as information display messages about registered faults).

The oil level cannot be controlled when the engine is running, an indication appears "ENGINE OIL LEVEL" "NOT WHEN ENGINE ON" (DO NOT CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING).

On models with a four-cylinder petrol engine, the oil level can also be measured with an oil dipstick (refer to Section Checking fluid levels, leak monitoring).
