Start and stop the engine

Before starting, make sure the parking brake is set.

Gearbox Idle Switch (in an automatic transmission, the lever is in position P or N).

Turn the key in the steering lock to position 2.

The battery indicator light should come on.

Cold engine

Turn the key in the steering lock to the right until it stops and release it immediately if the engine ignition is correct.

Do not touch the accelerator pedal while starting the engine.

Warm engine

Turn the key in the lock all the way to the right. Do not touch the accelerator pedal. If the engine does not start after 4 seconds, press the accelerator pedal and then start until the ignition catches. Release the key and accelerator pedal.

If the coolant temperature is too high, the starting time can be shortened by slowly pressing the gas pedal when starting the engine.

Mute

Turn the key in the lock to position O and immediately remove it when the car is parked. If the coolant temperature is very high, for example after driving in the mountains, do not turn off the engine immediately, but let it idle for about 1 minute.

Caution! Due to the built-in restart lock, before restarting the machine, it is necessary to turn the key in the steering lock back to the "O" position. Check the oil pressure immediately after starting. If the engine is very cold, you can observe an increase in oil pressure for some time immediately after starting. Do not run at high speed until the normal oil pressure readings are established.

The battery indicator light should go out once the engine starts.

Car with catalytic converter

In areas where temperatures often drop below -25°C, we recommend installing a coolant heater (visit Mercedes Benz service).
