Removing
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands (see "Vehicle lifting and jacking up").
3. Working from underneath the vehicle, remove the metal retainer and disconnect the gear selector lever from the shift bar (see fig. 2.3).

4. Remove the cover from the central console as described in Chapter 11. On later models, it may be necessary to remove the center console assembly.
5. Disconnect the indicator lighting wire from the light distributor and/or remove the bulb from the lever housing.
6. Disconnect the wire plug from the switch "economical" / "standard".
7. Remove the mounting screws, then remove the gear selector lever from the floor of the car (see fig. 2.7). Remove the gasket.

Installation
8. Check up a condition of a lining and. if necessary, replace it.
9. Install the gasket on the bottom of the selector lever assembly, then insert the screws to hold the gasket in place.
10. Further installation is carried out in reverse order.
