Adjustment
1. To perform the adjustment, the vehicle must be placed on its wheels.
2. Working from underneath the vehicle, remove the metal retainer and disconnect the shift lever from the rod (see fig. 2.3).
3. Move the shift lever to the "N" position.
4. Loosen the lock nut on the end of the rod (see fig. 3.4).

5. Adjust the length of the shift rod by turning the end so that when the rod is connected to the shift lever, there is a gap of approximately 1.0 mm between the shift lever and the "N" limiter on the shift lever linkage.
6. When the adjustment is complete, secure the shift rod to the lever with the locking pin, then tighten the lock nut.
Removal
7. To improve access, apply the parking brake, raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands (see "Lifting the car and placing it on supports").
8. Pry the retainer off the ends of the shift rod on the shift lever and transmission, then pull the rod out from under the vehicle.
Installation
9. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
