Checking the oil level in a manual transmission (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W201)

Note: To remove the transmission filler plug, you will need a hex key.


1. Place a suitable container under the transmission filler and inspection plug, located on the right side of the transmission. To unscrew the plug, you will need a hex key, but if you do not have one, you can use a tall nut or a piece of hex and a wrench (see fig. 18.1).

2. The liquid level should be at the level of the lower edge of the filler hole.

3. If necessary, add fluid until it begins to flow out of the filler hole.

4. When the level is correct, install the plug and tighten it securely.
