Examination
1. The reverse light circuit is controlled by a plunger type switch located at the rear of the gear selector lever under the center console. If you find a fault in the circuit, first check the fuse.
2. To access the switch, from inside the vehicle, remove the cover from the central console (see Chapter 11) to access the gear shift lever assembly.
3. To check the switch, disconnect the connector and use a multimeter (set it to resistance measurement mode) or a sampler (battery and light bulb) make sure that the circuit is closed only when reverse gear is engaged. If this is not the case, and there are no visible breaks or other damage to the wires, the switch is faulty and should be replaced.
Removal
4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Follow the steps described in paragraph 2.
6. Unclip the switch from the bracket and disconnect the plug.
Installation
7. Installation is carried out in reverse order
