Electronic control unit

Removal

1. On models with Electronic Idle Speed Control (ELR), the operation of the Anti-Rapid Reduction (ARA) electronic control unit is controlled by the ELR electronic control unit - refer to the information provided in paragraph 12.

2. On models with the pneumatic idle speed control system, the electronic control unit for the Electronic Anti-Jerk Ratio (ARA) system is located in the rear of the engine compartment behind the bulkhead panel.

3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

4. Disconnect the control unit wires from the multi-pin connector.

5. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the unit from the partition.

Installation

6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Crankshaft speed sensor

7. Refer to the information provided for the electronic idle speed control system in paragraph 12.

Coolant temperature sensor

8. Refer to the information provided for the electronic idle speed control system in paragraph 12.

Electromagnetic drive

Removal

9. The Anti-Rapidity Control (ARA) solenoid is mounted on the rear of the high-pressure fuel pump housing. If the vehicle is equipped with both Electronic Idle Speed Control (ELR) and Electronic Anti-Rapidity Control (ARA), the lower of the two actuators will be the ARA solenoid (see fig. 12.15).

10. Disconnect the negative battery terminal,

11. On non-turbocharged engines, refer to paragraph 2 and remove the air cleaner assembly.
