Warning: Before working on any part of the power system, read the precautions in paragraph 1.
Removing
1. The fuel accumulator is located on the gasoline supply line next to the gasoline filter (see fig. 4.5, in). Access to the accumulator opens from below from under the car.
2. Refer to paragraph 2 and depressurize the power system.
3. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
4. Park the vehicle on a level surface and place chocks under the front wheels. Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack and place it securely on jack stands (see "Jacking up the car and placing it on stands").
5. Turn away screws and remove a guard from the petrol pump, the filter and the accumulator.
6. Using suitable hose clamps, pinch the flexible fuel supply hose to the fuel pump and the inlet pipe from the filter. Do not use a vise as they may cause internal damage to the hoses.
7. Loosen the unions and disconnect the fuel lines from the front and rear of the battery assembly. Where bypass bolts are used, remove the sealing washers and destroy them - new ones are required at installation. Get ready for the fact that some of the gasoline may spill - place a container under the pump and cover the surrounding area with rags.
8. Loosen and unscrew the screws, loosen the fastening belt and remove the battery from the support bracket.
9. If the mounting bracket cannot be down enough to remove the battery, where provided, unscrew the bypass bolts and disconnect the fuel pipe from the fuel pump and filter. Be prepared for some fuel to spill and remove the sealing washers. When the fuel tube is disconnected, it will be possible to lower the battery for removal.
Installation
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. If using bypass bolts, install new sealing washers.
11. When finished, start the engine and check that there are no leaks around the removed parts. Please note that air has entered the power system and it may take longer than usual to start the engine.
