Removing
1. Disconnect the air intake pipe, which is routed from the air cleaner to the front of the engine compartment.
2. Disconnect the warm air intake from the intake air damper valve base.
3. On models equipped with a Stromberg type carburetor, loosen the clamps and remove the pipe from the air cleaner to the carburetor (see fig. 2.3, a-c).

4. On models equipped with a Pierburg type carburetor, remove the nut that secures the intake manifold to the camshaft cover.
5. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose from the lower half of the air cleaner.
6. Turn away nuts, unfasten latches and lift a cover of an air cleaner. Remove the filter element. Loosen the nuts/screws and lift the lower part of the air cleaner (see fig. 2.6, a-c). On models with a Pierburg carburetor, remove the rubber seal.

7. On later models with a Stromberg carburetor and air cleaner with external fasteners, remove the nuts and separate the bottom of the air cleaner from the fasteners.
Installation
9. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Check that the filter element is installed correctly according to the markings on its top surface. Where required, tighten all fasteners to the correct torque.
