Removal and installation the cylinder head (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W140)

Removal

Cylinder head installation details

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the lower protective shield.

3. Drain the coolant.

4. Remove the generator drive belt.

5. Remove the cylinder head cover.

6. Remove the intake manifold.

7. Remove the compressed air distribution tube.

8. Disconnect the pipe (12) from the cylinder head.

9. Disconnect the vacuum tubes (13) from the cylinder head.

10. Unscrew the exhaust system (6) from the manifold or turbocharger.

11. Remove the timing chain tensioner (20).

12. Remove the sliding lever (33) from the cylinder head.

13. Remove the camshaft housing (22).

14. Remove the injectors (23).

15. Disconnect the fuel lines.

16. Disconnect the engine wiring (29) from the cylinder head.

17. Remove the oil filter (40).

18. Unscrew the fuel filter (70/2) from the cylinder head.

19. Unscrew the bolts (15) securing the timing chain cover to the cylinder head.

02 — Cylinder head

16, 16a, 19 - Bolts; 17 - Bracket; 24 - Cylinder head sealing surfaces; 25 - Gasket; 26 - Guide bushings; 41 - Turbocharger; 42 - Oil injection line; 43 - Return oil line; 44 - Compressed air supply pipe

1. Roll back the pressure (42) and return (43) oil lines, the compressed air supply pipe (44) from the turbocharger (41).

2. Loosen the cylinder head mounting bolts (16) and (16a).

3. Check the cylinder head mounting bolts.

4. Screw the bracket (17) onto the cylinder head with bolts (19).

5. Remove the cylinder head (02). Wipe the sealing surfaces (24) and threaded holes.
