Removal and installation the coolant pump (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

Drain the coolant. One drain bolt is on the radiator, the other is in the cylinder block.

Loosen the power steering pump belt and remove it.

Loosen the power steering pump belt and remove it.


Remove the radiator and fan shroud.

Loosen and remove the belt.

Disconnect the pulley from the coolant pump.

Unscrew the bolts securing the pump to the housing from the cylinder block.

For 8-cylinder engines, loosen and remove the upper coolant hose from the coolant pump inlet fitting and the lower hose from the coolant thermostat housing cover.

Remove the fan viscous clutch together with the fan.

Loosen the front coolant hose clamp and remove the inlet fitting.

Remove the ignition distributor by unscrewing its mounting bolt.

For vehicles with hydropneumatic springs, unscrew the hollow bolt and put the high pressure line aside.

Remove the vibration damper.

After removing the 8 mounting bolts, remove the coolant pump.

If the same pump is to be used again, the mating surfaces of the removed pump must be cleaned.

Install a new gasket and reinstall the coolant pump in the reverse order of removal.
