Raise the front of the car and remove the front wheel.
Using a puller as shown in Fig. 214, remove the hub cap.
Remove the spring contact to eliminate radio interference.
Disconnect the brake caliper and hang it on a piece of wire next to the hub.
Remove the brake disc from the hub.
Loosen the bolt and unscrew the split nut (2), as shown in fig. 215. Remove washer.
Remove the hub from the stub axle. If you have difficulty removing it, you must remove it with a puller. Remove seal.
If the bearings are not being replaced, the hub can be installed as described below. Bearing replacement is described in section 13.5.2. Before installing the swivel pin on the axle, install the inner ring of the bearing and the stuffing box into the hub.
Lubricate the working surfaces of the stub axle.
Put the hub on the axle of the stub axle and push it down with a hammer with a rubber head.
Install a well-lubricated outer bearing and hammer it into place.
Install the washer and tighten the split nut.
Adjust the axial clearance in the bearings as described in section 13.4.
Install the brake disc and secure the caliper to the stub axle with new self-locking bolts. Tighten bolts to 115 Nm.
Install the spring contact, fill the hub cap with grease and press the cap into the hub with blows of a hammer with a rubber head.
Install the wheel, tighten the wheel bolts and remove the vehicle from the stands.
