Determining the difference in rotation angles (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W116)

Turn the inner front wheel by 20° and determine the angle of rotation of the outer front wheel. The measurement is carried out on the pivot supports to adjust the position of the wheels when turning left and right. Large deviations in the measurement results may be caused by the following reasons:

When adjusting the toe-in, the steering was not set to the center position.

The steering knuckle is not installed correctly on the steering gear shaft.

The steering arm, steering rods or steering knuckle are bent.

Checking the position of the car



The vehicle position is checked by measuring the position of the front suspension cross arms using the 116 589 13 21 00 device (Fig. 221). The work is performed at a service station. Rubber pads of different thickness are used for adjustment. If necessary, the front suspension springs are replaced.
