Starting off and changing gears (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202)

Contents: Manual transmission ↡ Automatic transmission ↡ Installing the accelerator pedal ↡
Check the brakes after starting off. Warm up the engine quickly. After reaching the required engine temperature, check the steering. To avoid damaging the rear axle, completely avoid spinning the drive wheels for a long time when starting off on a slippery road surface.

Manual transmission

Manual transmission

Shifting to reverse gear is done when the car is stationary. To do this, you need to lift the shift lever.

Do not exceed the maximum permissible speeds in individual gears (see markings on speedometer).

Attention! When leaving the car, put the car in 1st or reverse gear and apply the handbrake.

Automatic transmission

Automatic transmission

Individual gears are engaged automatically, depending on:

  • lever positions;
  • car speed;
  • accelerator pedal position.

accelerator pedal position.

Attention! When leaving the car or performing any work in the car with the engine running, set the handbrake and the selector lever to the "P" position

Set the selector lever to the desired position only when the engine is idling, while engaging the braking mode. Release the brake immediately upon starting off, otherwise there is a risk that the car will start moving prematurely.

Installing the accelerator pedal

Low throttle = early response = poor acceleration.

Original source of information: www.mercedesman.ru

Lots of gas = late response = strong acceleration.

Too much gas (the accelerator pedal is depressed below the full throttle point) = downshift back to a lower gear = maximum acceleration.
