Steering linkage joint cuffs — removal and installation

Defective cuffs must be replaced immediately, since dirt that has penetrated into the joint will put it out of order in a short time. In doubtful cases, the tip of the lever or the entire steering trapezoid assembly is replaced.

Removal

1. Remove the steering linkage.

2. Remove the flat spring ring (3) using a screwdriver.

3. Remove the cuff (2) together with the round spring ring (10) upwards.

4. Note: In the case of a ball joint seal between the tie rod and the trapezoid lever, proceed in the same way, but the lever tip must first be unscrewed.

Installation

1. Remove the grease and fill the ball joint with approximately 3 cc of multi-purpose grease such as Shell Retinax A.

2. Insert a new O-ring (10) into the rubber seal.

3. Place the rubber cuff (2) over the hinge pin.

4. Install the flat spring ring (3) using a screwdriver with rounded edges so as not to damage the rubber cuff.

5. Put the steering linkage back in place.
