There is a risk of chemical burns!
Do not lean over the battery pack while starting with the auxiliary battery pack.
There is a risk of explosion!
Do not work with open flame, do not smoke, avoid sparks near the battery.
Observe safety precautions when handling the battery (Section Charging and starting systems).
Do not attempt to start the engine if the battery is frozen. You must first defrost the battery.
Use auxiliary cables of sufficient cross-section with insulated terminal clamps.
Cars must not touch.
Turn off all electrical consumers.
First, connect the positive terminals with a cable.
The other vehicle's engine must be idling.
Connect the negative terminals of the batteries with an auxiliary cable.
Start the engine.
If the engine is running, turn on electrical consumers, such as a fan, but not the light!
Remove the cables from the negative terminals first, then from the positive terminals.
Note: Starting with an auxiliary battery is possible with a cold engine and cooled catalytic converter. However, multiple and prolonged starting attempts should be avoided.
It is not permitted to start the engine using a device for rapid charging of batteries.
Charging the battery is discussed in Chapter Routine maintenance.
