Removal and installation the release bearing (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

If the release bearing is defective, noises are heard when the clutch pedal is pressed. To remove it, you need to:

Remove the gearbox.

Remove the release bearing (1) from the gearbox shaft.

Check the release bearing by hand. To do this, lightly squeeze and rotate the bearing. It should rotate easily, otherwise replace the release bearing.



Pull the clutch release fork (2) in the direction of arrow (A), then in the direction of arrow (B) and remove it from the ball joint (3).



To install you need:

Lubricate all rubbing surfaces with MOS2 grease.

Install the clutch release fork (2) onto the ball joint (3) in the directions opposite to removal.

Make sure that the fork spring is in its mounting position.

Lubricate the bearing and splined portion of the gearbox input shaft.

Install the gearbox.
