In Mercedes C-Class cars, the instruments are concentrated on the dashboard. It must be removed if the bulbs in the instrument cluster lighting system need to be replaced. If individual measuring instruments are faulty, the dashboard can be disassembled and the instrument repaired. This subsection also covers the switches on the steering column: windshield wipers/high and low beam/flashing light.

Removal



1. Disconnect the ground (–) cable from the battery terminal.

Caution! This will erase the radio's anti-theft code. Before disconnecting the wires, see. subsection 13.1.16.


2. Vehicle without steering wheel adjustment relative to the driver: remove the steering wheel.

4. Carefully insert the brush spring lifting hook between the trim and the dashboard and turn it 90°. If necessary, you can make such a hook yourself.



5. If there is no such hook, remove the lower protective cover.

6. Take the dashboard from the bottom back and press the insert evenly without distorting it.

7. Pull out the instrument panel evenly.

8. Release the electrical connector mounting brackets (62, 63) and remove the connectors. Remove the instrument panel.

Installation



1. Place both plug connectors and secure them by pressing in the clips.

2. Insert the instrument panel into the hole without tilting, press it in and fix it.

3. If removed, install the lower protective cover.

4. Install the steering wheel if necessary.

5. Connect the ground (–) wire to the battery terminal. Set the clock and enter the anti-theft code for the radio.
