Oil Temperature Thermostat — Removal and Installation (Mercedes-Benz S-Class W126)

The working thermostat may only be removed at temperatures below 60'C, otherwise the pressure rod will be pressed out. The pressure rod must under no circumstances be pulled out of the thermostat distribution element, otherwise its operation is no longer guaranteed.

Unscrew the plug bolt and collect the leaking oil.

Then remove the thermostat with the control disk and the pressure spring.

Insert the thermostat with the control disk and pressure spring into the upper part of the filter. a Screw in and tighten the plug bolt.

Check the operation of the thermostat and the tightness of the plug.

Add oil to the required level.

8-cylinder engines



Remove the oil filter. To do this, unscrew the valve seat ring using a special key.

Remove the toothed valve with the pressure spring, the spring plate with the pressure spring and the control disk with the thermostat.

Insert the thermostat with the control disk and pressure spring, the spring plate with the pressure spring and the toothed valve.

Install the valve seat ring and tighten to the specified torque.

Use a cross punch to caulk the valve seat ring into both grooves on the oil filter housing.

Install the oil filter with a new gasket and adjust the engine oil level to the correct level.
