Intake air temperature sensor — removal, inspection and installation (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W202)

0
Contents: Removal ↡ Examination ↡ Installation ↡
The temperature sensor measures the temperature of the intake air. This value, together with the signal from the intake manifold pressure sensor, serves as a measure of the amount of intake air for the control unit. The intake air temperature sensor is an NTC resistor (NTC = negative temperature coefficient), the resistance of which decreases as the temperature increases.

Engine capacity 2.2/2.5 l

Removal

Removal

Remove the temperature sensor together with the plug (B17x1) by squeezing both side retaining clips (1).

Examination

1. Disconnect the plug.

2. Check the resistance of the temperature sensor at different temperatures with an ohmmeter. The measured value is OK if it is within the tolerance of + 5% (see table Temperature sensor resistance).

3. If the temperature sensor does not reach the specified values during measurements, it should be replaced.

Installation

1. Insert the cable plug (connector).

2. Check the O-ring for defects or porosity and replace it if necessary.

3. Insert the temperature sensor together with the circular profile sealing ring.

4. Press the locking clips outward until it is clearly (audibly) locked in place.
