In cases where the condition of the object of inspection is on the edge of acceptable, the decision to pass the inspection is at the discretion of the inspector. This decision will be determined by the willingness of the inspector to offer, say, a close relative or friend the use of your car if it is in the stated condition. If the car is clean and looks well-maintained, then the inspector will be more inclined to consider such a car as having passed the inspection, rather than a car that looks sloppy and obviously neglected.
In this guide we have only been able to summarize the inspection requirements that were in effect at the time of going to press. Inspection requirements are becoming increasingly stringent, although some concessions are made for older vehicles.
