Seat belts — removal and installation (Mercedes-Benz C-Class W201)

Warning: Models equipped with SRS (airbags), are equipped with front seat belt pretensioners. For safety reasons, no part of the front seat belt should be disassembled, removed or repaired - work should only be carried out at a Mercedes-Benz dealer service station.

Front belt

1. Remove the two lower screws securing the B-pillar trim (see fig. 37.1).



2. Turn the seat belt back, remove the cover on top of the lower mounting bolt by sliding it off the base of the belt (i.e. forward), then unscrew the lower seat belt mounting bolt.

3. Pull the rubber door seal around the B-pillar.

4. Move the B-pillar trim down to release the upper clip and remove the trim.

5. Loosen the upper belt guide mounting bolt and the inertia drum mounting bolt, then remove the belt.

6. If you also need to remove the seat belt lever, first remove the driver's or passenger's seat as described in paragraph 35.

7. Hold the lever and unscrew the mounting bolt on the side of the seat. Remove the lever.

8. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Rear seat belt

9. Remove the seat cushion as described in paragraph 36.

10. Loosen the bolt securing the seat belt support to the floor (see fig. 37.10).



11. Pull the rubber door seal around the rear pillar trim.

12. Using a wedge, carefully press the front of the pad retainers towards the center of the vehicle.

13. Lift the trim up and remove it from the rear pillar.

14. Remove the rear seat back as described in paragraph 36.

15. Unscrew the bolt securing the upper guide on the rear pillar.

16. Remove the sound-absorbing material around the rear inertia reel.

17. Loosen the inertia reel mounting bolt and remove the seat belt from the vehicle.

18. If the lever needs to be replaced, unscrew the bolt, remove the separator plate and remove the corresponding lever (see fig. 37.18).



19. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
