Attention! The cable is very sensitive to bending and therefore requires careful handling during installation. A single slight bend can lead to later failure during vehicle operation. Therefore, cables that were previously bent should not be installed.
Removing
1. 2.0L Engine: Unhook Throttle Cable (230) on the adjustment lever (208). To do this, press the guide piece (240).
2. 2.2/2.5L engines: Unhook the throttle cable from the ball head of the control arm.
3. Squeeze the plastic spring clip (228) and pull the cable drive out of the support (225).
4. Remove the cover under the dashboard.
5. Unhook the cable drive mount (arrow) on the accelerator pedal lever (223). To do this, unhook the return spring (235) and pull out the holder (233/2) along with the expansion bolt.
6. Push the throttle cable outward from inside the vehicle. At the same time, do not squeeze out the rubber bushing.
7. Remove the throttle control cable as a set.
Installation
1. Lubricate the throttle cable between the guide and the tip with anti-corrosion grease type Mercedes-000 989 5110.
2. Note: On vehicles with automatic transmission, the throttle control cable is installed in its holder together with the spring (arrow). This increases the pedal lever travel and allows the accelerator pedal switch to be turned off.
3. Check rubber bushing for damage or porosity (231), replace if necessary.
4. Route the throttle control cable through the interior of the vehicle and hang it on the accelerator lever. Hook up the return spring.
5. Mount the cover under the dashboard.
6. Insert the throttle cable through the hole in the support, push down on the support and lock.
7. 2.0L engine: Hook the throttle cable onto the adjusting lever and secure it with the guide piece (240).
8. 2.2/2.5L engine: Push the throttle cable into the ball head of the control arm.
9. Adjust the throttle cable.
