Gas control cable (diesel) — removal and installation

Attention! The cable is very sensitive to bending and therefore requires careful handling during installation. A single slight bend can lead to its later breakage during vehicle operation. Therefore, cables that have been previously bent should not be installed.

Removal

1. 2.0L engine: Disengage the throttle control cable (230) from the adjusting lever (208) by pressing the guide piece (240).

2. 2.2/2.5L engines: Disconnect the throttle control cable from the ball head of the throttle lever.

3. Squeeze the plastic spring clip (228) and pull the cable drive out of the support (225).

4. Remove the cover under the instrument panel.

5. Unhook the cable mount (arrow) on the accelerator pedal lever (223). To do this, unhook the return spring (235) and pull out the holder (233/2) together with the spacer bolt.

6. Press the gas control cable outward from the inside of the car. Do not squeeze out the rubber bushing.

7. Remove the throttle control cable as a kit.

Installation

1. Lubricate the throttle control cable between the guide element and the tip with anti-corrosion plastic grease such as Mercedes-000 989 5110.

2. Note: On vehicles with automatic transmission, the throttle control cable is installed in its mount together with the spring (arrow). This increases the travel of the pedal lever and makes it possible to switch off the accelerator pedal switch.

3. Check the rubber bushing (231) for damage or porosity, replace if necessary.

4. Pull the gas control cable through the interior of the car and hang it on the accelerator lever. Hook the return spring.

5. Install the cover under the instrument panel.

6. Insert the throttle control cable through the hole in the support, press down on the support and lock it in place.

7. 2.0L engine: Attach the throttle control cable to the adjusting lever and secure it with the guide piece (240).

8. 2.2/2.5L Engine: Press the throttle control cable onto the ball head of the throttle lever.

9. Adjust the throttle control cable.
