All rim wheels have a press-fitted lug that prevents rim pressure on the tubeless tyre, during very hard cornering.
If tires and / or rims are installed that are not indicated in the vehicle passport, they must be entered in the passport. To do this, as a rule, you need permission to use them from Mercedes.
All air pressure data are for cold tires. An increase in tire pressure of 0.2 bar resulting from long driving should not be bled off.
The air pressure in the spare wheel tire corresponds to the maximum pressure at full load.
Attention! As a result of continuous technical development, other tire pressures and other tire-rim combinations for older models may be acceptable. We therefore recommend that you request the latest technical data from specialized repair shops.
The tire pressure is also indicated on the sticker on the fuel tank cap.
Attention! Manufacturers recommend using tires only up to a profile depth of 1.6 mm; on the entire tread surface, the profile depth must be at least 1.6 mm. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to replace summer tires with a profile depth of 2 mm and winter tires with a profile depth of 4 mm.
Since winter tires have a speed limit, the driver must be aware of the instructions regarding the maximum speed allowed.
Disc markings
Example: 6 J x 15 H2 ET31:
- 6 = wheel rim width in inches
- J = letter designation for the height and contour of the onboard rim threading
- x = one-piece deep base rim designation
- 15 = rim diameter in inches
- H2 = outer and inner rim profile with lug shoulder
- ET31 = pressing depth 31 mm
Tire marking
Example:
- 195 = tire width in mm
- /70 = ratio of height to width (tire cross-sectional height is 70% of the width)
If the specified cross-sectional ratios are not available (e.g. 155R13), then in this case we have "normal" height/width ratio. It is 82% for radial tires.
- H = speed class, H: up to 210 km/h (not always indicated for new tires).
- R = radial design (= radial tire) 14 = rim diameter in inches
- 89 = bearing capacity index.
- H = alphabetical designation of the permissible highest speed.
Attention! If between data 14 and 89 there is the designation H + S, then this indicates tires with a winter profile.
Letter designation of speed
The letter designation of the speed is after the designation of the tire size. The speed symbols apply to both summer and winter tyres.
Letter designation | Permissible top speed |
Q | 160 km/h |
S | 180 km/h |
T | 190 km/h |
H | 210 km/h |
V | 240 km/h |
W | 270 km/h |
Date of tire manufacture
The date of manufacture is indicated on the tire in the manufacturer's code.
Example: DOT CUL2 UM8 064 TUBELESS
- DOT = US Department of Transportation
- CU = tire manufacturer's abbreviation
- 12 = tire size UM8 = tire design
- 064 = date of manufacture = 06 week 1994
- = character of the current decade (1990 - 1999)
- TUBELESS = tubeless tire (TUBETYPE = tire with tube).
