Disassembly
1. Remove the suspension strut, see relevant chapter.
Attention! The shock absorber spring has a high compression ratio. To remove the shock absorber, the coil spring must be fixed with a suitable clamp.
Attention! Do not disconnect the shock absorber without properly fixing the shock absorber spring with a clamp. Make sure that the coils of the spring are firmly seated in the clamping handles. Otherwise, the possibility of spring slippage cannot be ruled out. Do not use wire to tie the coils of the spring. It has a high degree of compression and incompetent handling can lead to injury. Use only reliable tools!
2. Fix the coil spring with a suitable clamp so that its handles compress at least three coils of the spring.
3. Fix the clamp with the spring of the suspension strut fixed and the strut itself in a vise (see illustration).
Attention! To compress the spring, use only a reliable tool, for example, HAZET-4900-2A with clamping handles 4900-15/2 (see illustration 4.3).
Attention! Do not clamp the suspension strut itself in a vise.
4. Compress the strut spring just enough to relieve the top and bottom spring cups.
5. Unscrew the damper stem self-locking nut using a bent-handled socket wrench.
When using attachment 2 (HAZET 25931-21) you can use a normal torque wrench 4. At the same time, hold the shock absorber rod with a 3 x 7 mm hex socket wrench (HAZET-2593-1) (see illustration).
6. Remove the gasket and rack support.
7. Remove shock absorber.
Attention! If the spring needs to be replaced, it should be slowly released. If only the shock absorber is to be replaced, then the spring does not need to be dissolved.
8. Remove the top support cup of a spring of an amortization rack with accompanying details.
9. Remove the bellows, compression stroke buffer, and rubber pad from the top support cup.
10. Check the condition of the shock absorber, see relevant chapter.
11. Examine all details of an amortization rack. Replace parts that are cracked, heavily worn, rusted, damaged or out of date.
Assembly
Attention! It is recommended to replace the springs and shock absorbers on both suspension struts. When installing new springs, one should not forget that, depending on the configuration and model of the car, different springs are placed on the shock absorbers. Both racks of one bridge must be equipped with springs of the same type. The designation of the springs is painted on one of the coils.
12. Install the bellows, compression stroke buffer, and rubber pad onto the top cup.
13. Compress, if necessary, the shock absorber spring with a clamp.
14. Install the upper spring seat with rubber pad, stroke buffer, and bellows attached.
15. Install shock absorber.
16. Install the gasket and upper rack support.
17. Screw a new self-locking nut onto the shock absorber rod and tighten it to 60 Nm. At the same time, keep the shock absorber rod from turning with a 7 mm hex socket wrench.
18. Slowly release the spring until its ends touch the support cups and remove the clamp.
19. Install the shock absorber in place, see relevant chapter.
