Disassembly

1. Remove the shock absorber strut, see the relevant chapter.

Caution! The shock absorber spring has a high compression ratio. To remove the shock absorber, the coil spring must be secured with a suitable clamp.

Warning! Do not disconnect the shock absorber without properly securing the shock absorber spring with a clamp. Make sure that the spring coils are tightly inserted into the clamping handles. Otherwise, the spring may slip out. Do not use wire to tie the spring coils. It has a high compression ratio and incompetent handling may result in injury. Use only reliable tools!

2. Fix the coil spring with a suitable clamp so that its handles compress at least three turns of the spring.

3. Secure the clamp with the fixed shock absorber spring and the shock absorber itself in a vice (see illustration).

3. Secure the clamp with the fixed shock absorber spring and the shock absorber itself in a vice…

Attention! To compress the spring, use only a reliable tool, for example, HAZET-4900-2A with clamping handles 4900-15/2 (see illustration 4.3).

Caution! Do not clamp the shock absorber strut itself in a vice.

4. Compress the strut spring enough to relieve the upper and lower spring support cups.

5. Unscrew the shock absorber rod self-locking nut using a socket wrench with a curved handle.

When using device 2 (HAZET 25931-21) you can use a regular torque wrench 4. At the same time, hold the shock absorber rod with a 3 x 7 mm Allen key (HAZET-2593-1) (see illustration).

6. Remove the gasket and strut support.

7. Remove the shock absorber.

Attention! If the spring needs to be replaced, it should be slowly released. If only the shock absorber needs to be replaced, the spring does not need to be released.

8. Remove the upper shock absorber spring support cup with associated parts.

9. Remove the bellows, compression stroke buffer and rubber cushion from the upper support cup.

10. Check the condition of the shock absorber, see the relevant chapter.

11. Inspect all shock absorber strut parts. Replace cracked, heavily worn, rusted, damaged or worn out parts with new ones.

Assembly

Attention! It is recommended to replace the springs and shock absorbers on both shock absorber struts of the suspension. When installing new springs, do not forget that depending on the configuration and model of the car, different springs are installed on the shock absorber struts. Both struts of one bridge must be equipped with springs of the same type. The designation of the springs is painted on one of the coils.

12. Install the corrugated cover, compression stroke buffer and rubber cushion on the upper cup.

13. Compress the shock absorber spring with a clamp if necessary.

14. Install the upper spring support cup together with the attached rubber cushion, compression stroke buffer and bellows.

15. Install the shock absorber.

16. Install the gasket and upper strut support.

17. Screw the new self-locking nut onto the shock absorber rod and tighten it to 60 Nm. At the same time, hold the shock absorber rod from turning with a 7 mm Allen key.

18. Slowly release the spring until its ends touch the support cups and remove the clamp.

19. Install the shock absorber strut into place, see the relevant chapter.
