The rear axle with longitudinal arms of independent suspension of A-class cars is formed by a steel cross beam made of a pipe to which the upper longitudinal arms are welded. In front of the pipe there is a stabilizer, which compensates for the tilt of the body when driving on turns, and also prevents the lifting of the rear wheel located inside the turning radius.
The body is cushioned by two coil springs located between the longitudinal arms. In front of the springs are single-tube gas-filled shock absorbers. Due to the compactness of the bridge design, in which the springs and shock absorbers are located under the longitudinal arms, the interior volume of the passenger compartment has not decreased (see illustration 9.0).
The rear axle is maintenance-free.
