8 - Wheel bearing; 9 - Retaining ring; 37 - Drive shaft; 111 - Brake caliper; 112b - Brake disc; 112s - Brake shield
1. Installation details of the rear drive shaft flange and angular contact wheel bearing are shown in the illustration, which includes all references in the text.
2. Remove the rear drive shaft (37) (see Section Removal and installation of power shafts).
3. Without disconnecting the hose, remove the rear brake caliper (111) (see chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
4. Remove the brake disc (112b) (see chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
5. Remove parking brake shoes (see chapter Brake and auxiliary systems).
6. Using a hydraulic extractor, remove the rear drive shaft flange (10) with the hub assembly remaining on the vehicle.
Note. If a force of 40 Nm is not sufficient to remove the shaft, the hub assembly must be removed and the procedure repeated under stationary conditions.
7. Using special pliers, remove the retaining ring (9).
8. If necessary, remove the brake shield (112s).
9. Using a special puller, press the double-row angular contact bearing out of the hub assembly (8).
10. Press the bearing inner race out of the drive shaft flange.
11. Estimate the transverse and radial clearances of the flange (10), replace if necessary.
12. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
