Removing
20. Release the parking brake.
21. Install the car on the stand goats.
Attention! There is a risk of injury when the vehicle is jacked up or placed on jack stands. Familiarize yourself with the provisions of the chapter «car jacking».
22. Remove the brake shoes of the drum brake, see relevant chapter.
23. Vehicles with rear wheel disc brakes. Remove the brake pad expansion bars on the left and right wheels.
24. Disconnect the brake shoe cables on the right and left wheels, the right and left parking brake cable cables from the rear wheel brake shoe expansion bar.
25. Remove the protection of the bottom of the car, see relevant chapter.
26. Disconnect the brake pad cables of the right and left rear wheels from the front cable, see relevant chapter.
27. Release the cables 1 of the drive of the brake pads of the rear wheels from the couplings 2 on the bottom using the tool MERCEDES-BENZ 079 (see illustration).
28. Release the cables for the drive of the brake pads of the rear wheels from the mounting on the trailing arms on the right and left sides of the rear axle.
29. Cars with rear drum brakes. Disconnect the left and right parking brake cables from the brake pad support shields with a screwdriver and remove them from the holes.
30. Cars with rear disc brakes. Unscrew the bolts and disconnect the parking brake cables of the left and right rear wheels from the brake pad support shields and remove them through the holes in the protective covers (casings).
Installation
31. Cars with rear drum brakes. Insert the left and right parking brake cables into the holes and attach them to the brake shoe support shields.
32. Vehicles with rear disc brakes. Insert the brake shoe cables through the holes in the brake housings and bolt them to the support shields.
33. Attach the rear wheel parking brake cables to their holders on the trailing arms.
34. Attach the rear wheel parking brake cables to their holders on the bottom of the vehicle.
35. Attach the rear brake pad cables to the front cable, see relevant chapter.
36. Attach the tips of the parking brake cables to the rear wheel brake shoe levers.
37. Cars with rear disc brakes. Install the spacers on the rear brake pads.
38. Install the brake shoes of the drum brake, see relevant chapter.
39. Adjust the parking brake, see relevant chapter.
Attention! On vehicles with rear drum brakes, adjust the brake shoe adjuster so that the brake shoes are fully seated on the brake drum. To do this, start the engine to ensure sufficient braking force and depress the brake pedal several times.
40. Install the underbody protection, see relevant chapter.
41. Lower the car on wheels.
42. Check the operation of the parking brake.
