At temperatures below 5°C, the heating of the sprayer and hose is switched on.
When the windshield washer fluid level is low, a message appears on the multifunction display "CHECK WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID LEVEL" ("Check the windshield washer fluid level"), which can be cleared by pressing the reset button (R) on the instrument panel (A1).

The following operating modes are possible:
- One-touch cleaning: one movement is performed (Pressing the combination switch).
- From 31.8.2002: Intermittent operation controlled by rain sensor (B38) (Position 1 of the combination switch).
- From 1.9.2002: Intermittent operation controlled by rain/light sensor (B38) (Position 1 of the combination switch).
- Low speed (about 40 cycles per minute.) (Position 2 of the combination switch)
- High speed (about 60 cycles per minute.) (Position 3 of the combination switch)
Data is transferred only between the left SAM (N10/6) and the overhead console control unit (N70).
