The ignition system generates an ignition spark for each cylinder at a specific point in time. This causes the incoming working mixture to ignite. In the ignition coil, the 12 V voltage of the battery is converted to a voltage of 25,000 to 30,000 V for this purpose.

The Mercedes is equipped with a virtually maintenance-free transistor ignition system.
